Intra-state shown as CGST/SGST halves. Interstate IGST would be the full tax amount.

Quick answer

Choose exclusive to add GST on a base amount, or inclusive to extract base and tax from a price that already includes GST. The tool shows base, GST, total, and an automatic CGST/SGST split in rupees. It does not decide your legal rate or filing — that is for a professional.

How to use the GST calculator

  1. Pick a preset close to your business — kirana goods at 5%, an inclusive retail price at 18%, or a service invoice at 18% — or start blank.
  2. Enter the amount you are quoting, billing, or paying (Rs).
  3. Choose the GST rate from the dropdown (0, 5, 12, 18, or 28%) that applies to your product or service.
  4. Select exclusive or inclusive to match how you already price — exclusive adds tax on top, inclusive extracts it from a final price.
  5. Read base, GST, total, and CGST/SGST instantly, then copy the numbers onto your invoice or WhatsApp quote.

Once totals are locked, take them straight into the Invoice Template so buyers see the same number everywhere.

Exclusive vs inclusive — pick one story

Confusion starts when your catalogue says one thing and your invoice says another.

  • Exclusive. Buyer sees base, then tax added. Good when B2B clients expect a tax line.
  • Inclusive. Buyer sees one final number. Common for retail WhatsApp shops — still keep an internal base for books.
  • Never mix silently. Label prices on your store and in chat.

After you know the total, check whether the deal still leaves healthy profit with the profit margin calculator.

Put the numbers on invoices and payment asks

Clean GST math fails if the UPI note shows a different total than the PDF.

Copy base, tax, and total into the Invoice Template, then match collection habits from payment management. Festival offers still need a clear tax story — pair discounts with the discount calculator.

Next step: draft the invoice, tick payment fields on the Customer Support Checklist, then Open Invoice Template.

Important: this page is not tax advice

Futkar provides a free calculator so sellers stop doing GST arithmetic on scrap paper. We do not advise on registration, exemptions, input credit, place of supply, or returns.

If a customer asks for a GST invoice and you are unsure whether you can issue one, pause and talk to a CA. Wrong promises create bigger problems than a delayed reply.

Keep operations calm while you learn the rules — stock and order habits in order management still matter either way.

Use cases — who should run this GST calculator

Use it whenever a rupee amount needs a clear tax story before it reaches a buyer, a supplier, or an invoice.

Kirana / grocery retail

Enter the basket value with the 5% preset to see how much tax sits inside common daily-use items. Unlocks a clean answer for "why does the bill show extra" without opening a rate card.

Preset: 5% goods (kirana).

Marked store prices inclusive. Enter the sticker price in inclusive mode before quoting UPI so chat totals matched invoices exactly, with CGST/SGST ready for the bill.

Preset: 18% goods, inclusive.

Wholesale spices

Surat catalogue pricing

Switch modes to compare buyer-facing totals.

GST math mistakes that hurt trust

Guessing the rate

Wrong rate on an invoice is not a small typo — confirm with a CA.

Charging GST when unregistered

Collectors without registration create legal risk.

Inclusive catalogue, exclusive UPI

Buyers feel tricked when the total jumps in chat.

Rounding chaos

Pick a rounding habit and stick to it on every line.

Next step: clear invoices, clear UPI totals

Work out GST lines here, then put the same numbers on Futkar prices and invoices.

FAQs

Exclusive means the amount you enter is the base before tax. The calculator adds GST at your chosen rate to get tax and total. Example: Rs 1000 at 18% exclusive becomes Rs 180 tax and Rs 1180 total.
Inclusive means the amount already includes GST. The calculator backs out the base and the tax portion. Example: Rs 1180 inclusive at 18% yields about Rs 1000 base and Rs 180 tax.
No. This tool only does arithmetic for a rate you already know. It does not tell you whether you must register, which HSN or SAC applies, or how to file. Ask a CA for compliance decisions.
Pick the rate dropdown option (0, 5, 12, 18, or 28 percent) that applies to that product or service according to current law and your CA — the correct rate is not chosen by this page. Use a preset button for common goods or service scenarios as a starting point.
Yes — the calculator automatically splits your GST total into equal CGST and SGST halves for intra-state invoices. For an interstate sale, use IGST equal to the full GST amount shown instead of the split.
State clearly whether catalogue prices are inclusive or exclusive. Mixed messages create fights at payment time. Put the same rule on your Futkar store and invoices.
Do not charge GST on invoices if you are not registered. This calculator is still useful for understanding supplier bills that include tax. Registration thresholds and rules are for a CA, not this page.
Work out base, tax, and total here, then copy clean numbers into the Futkar invoice template and payment instructions so UPI asks match the document.
